A lot of work and ideas from many Gloucestershire Local Nature Partnership organisations over the last couple of years has gone into to the development of a draft Local Nature Recovery Strategy. Gloucestershire County Council is now presenting this draft strategy for public consultation for six weeks, from 8 September to 19 October 2025.
The strategy includes a draft interactive map, developed by Gloucestershire Centre for Environmental Records, that shows where different actions would ideally be focused for the most benefit for nature recovery.
Please give feedback to improve this strategy before it is finalised, via Gloucestershire County Council's consultation platform:

The draft strategy consists of:
Part 1 - Gloucestershire's Biodiversity and Opportunities for Nature Recovery
Part 2 - Biodiversity Priorities and Potential Measures
Priority Species List
Interactive Local Habitat Map
These can all be accessed from the consultation platform.

Thursday 25 September 2025 7.30 – 8.30pm
Wednesday 1 October 2025 2-3pm

The Local Nature Recovery Strategy shows zones of the best opportunities for habitat creation or management. As the opportunities to create wildlife habitat depend on so many factors, there are more options here than can be taken up. This strategy does not force anyone to do any actions on their land, it is an expression of the best opportunities for nature.
The strategy should help inform agri-environment funding applications, strategic planning by local authorities, conservation projects, community action, developers or others changing the use of a site, and Biodiversity Net Gain habitat management plans.
Gloucestershire Local Nature Partnership is supporting Gloucestershire County Council to develop a Local Nature Recovery Strategy for Gloucestershire: https://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/ecology-and-landscape/gloucestershire-local-nature-recovery-strategy/
We're grateful to many farmers, landowners, conservation organisations and species experts, members of local communities, and local authority officers and councillors. They have already provided lots of information, local knowledge and feedback to help develop a strategy that can demonstrate the best opportunities for action for nature.
Cllr. Martin Horwood, Cabinet Member for Environment and Planning at Gloucestershire County Council commented: “Nature recovery is one of our new administration’s top priorities and this is an exciting opportunity for Gloucestershire to take bold steps for nature. We want this plan to truly reflect the hopes and expertise of our communities. By taking part in the consultation, every resident can play a vital role in shaping a greener, wilder future for our county. Your input is essential—let’s come together and make nature recovery a reality! ”
